Will OnLive be the end of games consoles as we know them? Will YOU ditch your beloved PS3?

i don't think so you need a good broadband speed for this so that knocks australia out don't know about the uk though it sounds good but i prefer to have a physical copy of what i got with my money

I hope that this kind of thing dies quickly and is forgotten about for the rest of time. I prefer to have a console thanks, which i can play whenever the hell i want, and not at the whim of connection problems or lag etc. Or when i am away from a connection all together.

People prefer to have physical ownership of things they enjoy the most in life. This aswell as motion controllers are the 2 biggest things i do not want to see become a big thing.

I agree with gow2rules that why i dont buy from steam. But also this is not going to work consoles are the best. And also you need a very strong internet connection and computer to play the games and also the basic reason that the most people buy console is beacuase the dont have the money to update their computer. We have no reason to worry also is better playing your games form you living room in a big screen than playing them on the computer. And we think about hacker the leaderboards will be unfair and also where are you going to find so much space on the computer for all of this games. If i had to install all of my Ps3 games to my computer i will probably had only 9 games on it and i have around 40 games in my ps3

Well I doubt this will take off anyway because trophy whores wouldn't go for it because they'd have to pay more then a rental price for the extremly easy games they only play for platinums, I'd be willing to try it but as gow2rules said the connection value here in Australia is shit.

I also want to say that by consuming the bytes while you are playing is going to slow down the game

I read about this like 4 years ago, I wanted to buy it, but the PS3 was so beautiful… Its supossed to be really, really small, and only have a connection for internet (and a wall plugin ofcourse). I would buy it If I could pirate games (thats the only reason I would buy a xbox, but you cant play online, thats why i didnt buy it) or get large games for like 5$ max. Other then that, you have to download full games, which could take a fkn year if you had a bad connection (trust me, once it took a me a year to download something, i gave up ofcourse). Heres a pic:

saw this a little while ago.

umm… i think it will be interesting.

however, it will not kill the console.

consoles are computers designed entirely to play games in a particular format, and play them well.

im guessing this thing will still need a PC to act as it's console.

as a result, you will need to beef up your PC to play some of the games.  especially if you want some decent graphics out of it.

for people like me that's fine because i regularly upgrade my pc, but for most others this can be a costly experience that may not want to undertake to play the latest games.

You won't have to beef up your computer. From what I've read all the work is done on remote servers, so even someone with a low end rig can run a high end game.

I don't like the idea of the whole thing, but it will definitely take off.

I’m better than you.

As per most replies here my issue would be with the broadband speeds.

Its shockingly bad where I live so this is pretty much a non-starter for me. Some demo's have taken up to 8 hours to download, can you imagine how long something like Gran Tursimo would take which is apparently coming on 3 blu-ray discs?

mojo is right the big thing about online is you don't have have to download the games or need a big powerful machine what it does instead say you buy cyrsis it will just unlock the game for you on the sever and you can play it on the highest settings on basically a $500 laptop if you wanted basically its like streaming videos , this is why its taken so long to release as at first there was lag between your actions and it getting transmitted back.so you'll need a pretty good internet otherwise it may seem laggy and iv'e heard you can only be a certain distance from their severs before lag ensures

This'll probably be a big-ish hit for a little while, but i can't see it hanging around for too long. You'd definately need perfect internet, which is impossible to come by where I live, and if you had a download cap, it'd probably be used up quite quickly if it's constantly streaming it. Anyway, wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a PS3 in the long run?

I used to love my Virtua Boy, wasn't so keen on the headaches it caused me for skipping the break warnings though lol.

Console gaming will never die, it may well change to downloadable media only, but it will never die. As long as we have spare time there will always be a need to fill it, and for the unhealthy lazy people like me there is no better way than to sit on my arse and play on my PS3 on my nice big HD telly :) .
