Having recently picked up Liberty City Stories I was wondering if anyone bought this as DLC?

Personally I don't see the point of releasing it as DLC when the disc has more plus points to it:

* Costs less (I paid £22 for it)

* Don't need to own GTA IV to play it

* Can sell the game once I've finished with it

* Like CD's I prefer to own a “hard” copy rather than dowloading through itunes.

* Can lend it to mate's without worrying about whether Sony are going to ban my account for gamesharing (lets not get started on that one again eh??Wink)

So if you did buy as DLC can I ask why? Don't worry I'm not gonna abuse you if you answer yes and this isn't a trick question. Just curious Laugh

I haven't picked up the GTA DLC yet. I was going to use my Plat Night winnings on it, but decided against it when I saw the price. It just didn't make sense. I will pick it up on Disc eventually though.

I bought the DLC version of Burnout. The only drawback was that it was a monster of a download.

I went with the Disc version of Warhawk though. No real point in going the dlc way on that one with the way the “rule” was setupWink.

It all depends on the game/price/setup/etc…

I got it on disc simply because I have played my Grand Theft Auto IV disc so much I was geniunely afraid it would just turn to shreds in my disc drive. And like most people here I prefer 'hard' copies rather than DLC.

This is awesome though. I've only played Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned so far and it's awesome and I believe that Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony is meant to be even better. Damn I love Grand Theft Auto.

I bought the DLC, it was cheaper for me since I had an imported version of the original game.

But I think the only positive thing I've read is that if you buy the DLC you'll have all the old tunes available on the radio channels as welll as the new ones. Don't think the old ones come with the Disc version.

That's true about the music… The only reason bought it on disc was purely because of price. It seems strange it cost's less to buy the game with the inclusion of – the plastic box, instructions, map and disc. Along with all the added cost of producing the before mentioned.

I think if i had new beforehand i would have parted with the few extra pounds just to get the old soundtracks though. I have my own 320GB (298GB) HDD so the 18GB DL wouldn't have worried me but surly people with a 80GB SKU must be getting close to full. All the patches and save files soon add up.

Haven't played it much but I've noticed the bike back tyres are bigger for a bit more stability, i was dreading the slightly crazy bike controls of old – push forward and turn into the corners… I would always say disc over DL, Because it won't get lost or corrupted in any PS3 meltdown.

I hear what you say about bike stability. I promise you your ass is glued to that seat and it's not going anywhere!

When you buy the disk.. what would happen with trophies? If you have a previous GTA Save file with the games list already on the system, I can understand that it would just transfer over. But what would happen for a new comer that doesnt have the original GTA list on the system? Is the original still installed?

This is why I would think making both disks with seperate lists a good thing, whether it being shown as a 100% (Like a PSN game) or a Platinum.

Well, i would much have a hard copy of anything to be honest, whether it would be DLC, Games, Music, or Movies.

But you could lose the disc, or it could break if your not careful, or get scratched. DLC can't get damaged, unless it gets corrupted.

I mean, both Disc and DLC have their positives and flaws, but i think Disc is the way to go.

well i ordered the disc version from play.uk before it was delayed

so its still yet to arrive due to

-it got delayed originaly (diddn't really bother i could wait till april)

-then that damned volcano erupted terminating all flights in the uk on the day they where going to send it out oh well i expect it will arrive next week sometime

oh and i prefer hard copy compared to dlc as internet speeds in australia are pretty slow and most plans are capped (i'm on a 30gb plan right now)and 3-5gb for each episode is quite a lot

my opinion is that its best to have a hard copy of anything.. bacause u actually own it and can do with it what u like.. also when buying games and dlc off of the psn store your letting sony control when you use that content. because it is their content..  example: i have GT5 Prologue from the store, and if my buddy logs in and plays it, it makes me wait 24hrs before i can play the content on my account again. thats a stupid rule i think. but anyways i love the psn store and all of the dlc that they offer to everybody. its just some rules that r put on games regarding gamesharing are completely unnecessary. thats all i have to say about that.

You actually don't own the hard copy. As far as I know you only own a license to a single copy of that game. You buy access to the content rather than the disk. That's how they can include 'DLC' on the disk but make you pay extra later to unlock it.

It's the same with PC games that come with a limited number of installs. You pay for x amount of installs and once you use them up the disc is useless but as you never technically owned the disc there's nothing you can do about it.

@gow2rules

I feel your pain on the internet capping mate. I'm supposed to have an 'unlimited' service but I get threatening letters whenever myself and Gnilsia take the piss and download a few hundred gigs of stuff. Internet providers are years behind though. They're still using the same caps as they used when they first set up shop, despite the fact that download packets have increased massively.

As a total off-topic aside I thought it would be funny to point out that the spell-check for Gnilsia lists genitals as an option!!Laugh

I've heard (somewhere) that Sony and Co. are possibly looking to make disc based retail game's a thing of the past and edge ever to closer to 100% DL transactions with the next “next gen”… I don't know when Sony are thinking of releasing a “Ps4″ but i suspect 2-4 years. Personally my Internet would have to be much better to sufficiently DL games at a speed that was half decent – Some of the HD films from the store can take an epic amount of time.. I understand that it's not Sony's problem but still… And how it would, and should, effect cost.

I also wonder about special editions; If i'm buying the game online would i just get the extra “stuff” in the post…

I really hope Sony don't go down the road of pure downloads. Most people have problems with their net speeds and the previously mentioned DL caps would be a massive hindrance. How's a person with a 30gig limit supposed to get a full title?

And I'm sure Sony's customers that don't have net access wouldn't appreciate being left by the wayside.

Not to mention the the size of the HDD you'd need.

@Mojo

Unify prices my arse. When I tried to download Windows 7 off the Microsoft store it went from $200 to €300 when I changed the delivery address!!! What kind of exchange rate is that shite?

@Admin

Not to be questioning the powers that be, but was Mojo's post just deleted?
