Hi everyone,
This has an important message for everyone so please read it!
I thought i would let everyone know that i am quitting my Oz-Metalhead ID.
I was getting way to addicted to collecting trophies just to climb the leaderboard. This took its toll on every other part of my life. My family, friends, work and most importantly my partner suffered because of it. Well no longer am i putting them 2nd to a pointless leaderboard. I don't need a leaderboard position to tell me that i am good at gaming, and neither should anyone else. What i am trying to say is please do not put trophy collecting above what is more important in life.
This dawned on me after me and my partner broke up. For a month i cranked my sony collecting trophies. And after finishing another Platinum and wondering what game to Plat next i realised just how pointless it really was. All i was doing was chasing a leaderboard with no real reward in the end. I still like to collect trophies and recieve that sense of satisfation at the end when getting 100%, but in no way will having just that make me happy. I mean how satisfying is it to try and beat other gamers who all they do in their life is game 24/7 and cheat for trophies. I do not look up to those guys at all.
I look up to the guys like ShadeBlack who some of you might remember gave up on trophies a long time ago after he played Flower. It dawned upon him then what was more important to him. I wish i realised this sooner as it would have saved alot of pain for my partner, and many hours of game time.
The other reason i am doing this is because i am an obsessive perfectionist. I like things to be 100%, and to get Oz-Metalhead to 100% would take thousands of gaming hours to do. That is something i am not willing to do as most of those games i dislike or are very boring due to the repetitiveness (Mainly online shooters).
Oz-Metalhead retires while being #1 in his own country (Australia) and in the world top 30. I managed to get into the top 25 at one point but then i went back to finish old, more harder games. I could have finished higher but i am satisfied where he ended up.
I have started a brand new ID and the first game i am playing is Fallout 3, love this game!
Maybe one day i will be able to get back my #1 in Australia position but i am in no rush what so ever. I am playing strictly for fun now in my own god damn time, playing only the games i want to play.
I am now back with my partner, very much in love and very happy. I urge anyone else out there who has had a similiar experience as me or can feel it getting like it to choose what is more important to them in the long run. We only live once, so please, don't lose sight of what is more important in the end.
Happy fun gaming everyone!

Good to hear your moving on to a more brighter aspect of life and in playing games. Atleast your retiring #1 in Australia though, and I think you will stay at that position for a long time.
Enjoy life and enjoy games as they were meant for, having fun.

Well at the moment Oz-Metalhead is 30,000 points ahead of #2 in Australia. You never know i may be able to get above them with my new account before they get above my Oz-Metalhead acount.
But, I am in no rush at all and i really don't care if i don't make it there again. As long as i maintain a 100% profile while enjoying all the games i play i wont mind.
It's all about the fun and enjoyment for me. A little competition is fun aswell.

Thanks.
It shouldn't be too hard maintaining 100%. I'm only playing games i want to so i shouldn't have a problem at all.
My main problem was too many games with an online portion that take way to many hours repeating the same crap. I'm mainly sticking to single player games. The games i do play that have an online portion i will finish but in my own time, seeing as i am in no rush.
Obviously i will be staying away from older games like Resistance 2 and Far Cry 2. I can't stand online shooters anymore after all the ones i played and all that trouble and hours that went into them. Screw that, ill stick with rich single player experiences that have storylines and great characters. None of this getting 10000 kills boring crap.

Having Terminator Salvation on your list isn't that bad dude. It is still an experience aimed at males. Playing Hannah Montana on the other hand really has no excuse.

@ OZ.
Tell me about it. The only reason I went back to R2 was because of the competition on this site, but once back on it, it was real fun. After playing the very boring/laggy, sniper-infested MW2 for a while, hitting R2 was a breath of fresh air, with the massive battles taking place at the center of every map. It was bananas.

Yeah i do admit online shooters can have their fun parts but they do get boring quickly for me. I much prefer how it was in the old days. Having a bunch of mates over playing together sipping on some cold ones having a real blast. Playing online takes that social fun factor out of it.
I have yet to play MW2 online. lol

Good on ya mate .It's bad how addictive gaming can be for some (i'll admit i feel it sometimes) and collecting trophies is no help. It's all about playing in moderation.

@ OZ – I hear you. The good ol' days of playing the mario karts, coolboarders (on ps1), twisted metals… those were great times, playing all-nighters on the old consoles with friends.
@ dizzle – Britney Spears: Slave 4 U comes to mind. I feel like a slave to the PLAT sometimes, haha

I couldn't agree more man. Competing with strangers pales in comparison to playing in the same room as your mates. It's the reason that I only ever really play online with my brother (the troublesome Mojo!!) or my house-mate Gnilsia.
I tried keeping an eye on my (lowly) position on the leader-boards for about two weeks and in that short time gaming became a stress-out.
It's one of the reasons I like to play PC games as well. No trophies. I play on whatever difficulty I want and ignore the game modes I don't like.
The best of luck to you and your partner.

To be honest i don't really get the trophy whore gotta be no 1 aspect of gaming… It seems rather sad and screams some sort of insecurity in their mind that they gotta 100% – be no. 1.
It's almost laughable that people give away massive portions of their life to something that is nothing more than virtual gratification. Does your life not give you more than gaming does?
I guess life is diff. to everyone but being a trophy whore sucks. I know that a level of ability that i do not have is also needed and i would never deny that. That i would congratulate you on… But loosing touch on what is real i would not,to say you put your family second is on the point of shocking.
I could prob. push myself harder for trophies, as i could in life general… But i know i don't need to because i'm happy in myself, without anything.
Trophy whore's unite… Then piss off you no lifer F*cks… Well done for sorting your priority's in your head, however late and misplaced… This is one thing i hate about trophys – how they can take over someone's good thinking.

@ Oz – Good luck with the new ID and the 100% also it’s good to hear that you’re back with your partner.
you should never put your family, wife in second because of a hobby or work.
@ Doc-B – I’m not defending some peoples but it’s easy to assume that a so-called Trophy Whore is a no lifer without knowing them. I agree that alot seems to do nothing other than collecting trophies, especially those in Top 50 but i’ll never say that they don’t have any life at all.

I don't feel like i got to be #1. I like the self satisfaction of getting 100% in a game. Thats why i like to maintain a 100% profile, purely for self satisfaction.
I am happy within myself Doc, i just let the addiction i had for collecting trophies get out of hand, much like any other sort of addiction. Be it drugs, work or trophies.
Yes Doc i made a very big mistake, one that i am making up for now.
I still love to collect trophies and get another great collection up with all my games at 100%, but it is all for fun now. The leaderboards are a waste of time and money. Take it from someone who knows first hand.
And also, i have had a life during my chase in the top 25. Like InsomniacKiller said we weren't all no-lifers.
