mate i love my ps3 and would never get an xbox or any of that crap but its getting stupid now both my ps3s were treated great and they have just broke for no apparent reason why should i be expected to pay like 130 quid to get it fixed when its probably going to brake again in a years time they need to start making them better so they last longer than a year. half the folk on my friends list are on there 2nd ps3s because of this

i suggest you dont repair it because it does have a tendency to brake again as i found mine to do and get a slim (which is perfect)!

If your PS3 doesn't have atleast 15cm free on the left and right side, sweep the dust every week or so. I have 20cm on both sides and still sweep the dust, I love my PS3 lol.

I know what you mean, I wipe the dust off of my console at least once a day, and you are better off getting a slim finch, chances are it's gonna break again (trust me).

have 2 back this guy up tbh - Teated my console with a lot of TLC. but broke. Sony sent me a dodgy refurbished one (with only 3 months warranty) that was a joke.

Just bought my slim, but also went HMV and bought 3 year warranty for £25. not riskin it Laugh

Mine stopped reading discs at one point, but I got it refurbished, and it has worked great ever since.  Like any other piece of electronic hardware though, theres always a chance for malfunction.  The more complicated the device, the higher the chances.  Most of the time, its due to overheating, but thats usually not actually the fault of the device, but dust, like previous posters mentioned.  If you get a new one, dont just keep the area around it clean, but get some air duster to blow the dust out of it from time to time.  I have to do this with my laptop, or it overheats and shuts itself down.

I've had my 60GB for a little over 2 years. It's under my tv in the stand, but I have a little 6 inch fan that I have plugged in right infront of it and to the side, that I use ALL the time lol, and it keeps it fairly cool as it blows down the right side (as you look at the system) circles around behind, and pushes warm air out the left side. When I first got it, it was pretty warm down there when I would go check after playing for over an hour, so I had to “install” the little fan next to it to keep it safe.

has my ps3 since release and never had a problem with it….

i think just because you've had some bad luck, doesn't mean the system itself is becoming a joke.

in fact, i believe the two are unrelated…

I had my 60Gb sku for about 2 years before the BD drive went, then got 4 sub-standard              re-conned (diff. prob each time!) units before i just told them to give me a new 80Gb unit. Since then everything's been going smooth…

It's just the luck of the draw and i had prob's before they changed their poicy to fook everyone with the £150 sur charge so it wasn't to bad.

I'd still have a Ps3 over an x-box aytime… I hand my 360 for only 2 months, had to get rid cause it just ain't as good…

I've had mine for just over a year now (december 2008) and it's running smoothly. It's gone for months turned on non-stop (folding and playing games) before, and it's not even getting too noisy.

Ive had my ps3 (i think its an 80GB) since June 2008 and its never had any problems. My room is always fairly cool as it is in the basement of my house and more than half of it is underground, so the ps3 never ends up getting too warm and i clear the dust off at least once a day. Like mine has even run non-stop for a good 8 or 9 hours before and its still great. Then again, i live in Canada and the winters here are pretty harsh, with over 7 feet high of snow and temperatures dropping as low as -30 xD

I got my PS3 on release, and have never had a problem. I didn't add any kind of cooler or anything, just keep it in an open area where it can breathe.

On a side note, in one years time I had 3 xbox 360… all 3 are now dead. Treated them the same way. Not a basher, just noticing…

if your fans are not 35cm away from any objects i.e walls and stuff your ps3 will break if u smoke in the same room as a ps3  it will break if u dont hover the dust out of ur fans every couple of months your ps3 will break and if the room is to hot it will break i dident no this with 1st ps3 and it broke but i got new one and follow these steps now and my new one has been working fine for 3years now
