My son pointed out to me this morning that Christmas Day is 6 months today (he's 8)and that he wants one of the above.
Looking around various review sites it seems to be an even split between the two as to which one is the best.
What are the thoughts of the users here? At the moment I'm leaning towards Rock Band 2 with the Band in a Box bundle.

i have world tour and have played rock band 2. i liked rock band more than GH personally. World tour has a lot of good features but rock band has more of the songs that i like. u should look at the setlist for each and whichever is more to your son's liking go with it

Rock Band is definately the better game.
The wealth of DLC means that there is bound to be something your kid likes.

Well he's big into 70's & 80's rock so will check the tracklisting for both games.
I'd heard the drums are better for RB2. Is this right? If so that could seal the deal for me (if i'm gonna be involved I've got to be the drummer ).

i prefer the guitar hero drums actually. plus gh games have that new expert plus difficulty. but rock band drums are much easier. i think it's awesome when parents play games with their kids lol. oh and your son has great taste!! good music lol. if he'll be playing the drums a bit too you might want rock band.

I tend to look amongst the two as this.
Rock Band: Fun uncle that lets you get away with murder
Guitar Hero: Serious Dad who insists you work hard.
I own both games and I play Rock Band a heap more. I only bought GH: WT for GH: Metallica… So yeah there you go. On terms of DLC, Rock Band's DLC is universal while Guitar Hero's is locked to that one game.

Rock Band drums are awesome, and i have heard A LOT of people saying that the GH drums are un-responsive.
I say go with rock band for sure.

She often reminds me how lucky I am to have met her!!!!!
Picked up the Band in a Box pack last night for £75 which I thought was quite reasonable for “rip-off” Britain.
