So my playstation 3's blu ray drive died on me today. Meaning it cannot read any forms of media (won't load any discs). This is the second time this piece of junk has done this in a 3 month period. I am even more pissed that the original year warranty was over in november, and my new 90 day warranty (I got when Sony repaired this piece of junk the first time) ended 4 days ago. Ironic, that I already have a buy that is willing to pay $3,200 for my playstation 3 setup after I pay Sony $150 to have it repaired with another 90 day warranty. I have friends that play their Xbox 360s roughly 6 hours per day, and most of them have had their xbox 360s since launch. So I am officially converting to Microsoft, since that is where the games now are, and better customer service. Screw Sony. I will NEVER purchase anything with the Sony name again. Thank God they are close of going bankrupt as it is.

It was 5, 000 that were cut. I know bc my cousin is a lead programmer for them in Atlanta (still employed). Yes Sony is not far from bankruptcy. They have shut down 25% of ALL factories across the world. Doesn't sound like a good future for sony. Plus their TVs suck, haha. Their laptops are high and unreliable. Their blu ray players are rated the poorest quality on the market currently. Nothing seems to be going well for them. So no im not an idiot. Read the news. You may learn something. Go to college, you will definitely learn something

sonys blu-rays are ranked high, not number 1, but in the top 10 i think its 8.
u seem to have alot of issues with ur ps3, i’ve never had one, so i dont think its a piece of junk …..
tell us if u get RROD plz lol
ur gonna spend alot of money on 360 so good luck

Acutally it is samsung and panasonic that take the highest ratings for blu ray players currently. They have very few firmware issues in comparison to Sony.
My ps3 has been crap, but it didnt go downhill until 11 months after having it. since then it has been a nightmare for me. i am not going with xbox 360. i just realized with me starting graduate school soon, i will not have time to ever play any video games for atleast 2 years.

I know your not getting a 360 any more but still think about this, why would you want to buy a console that is cheaper than a game (guitar hero: world tour). According to many uk sites such as 'game' etc guitar hero is worth more than an arcade 360 + 4 games or a normal premium package…? just shows the small amount of tech in the 360 compared with the ps3

a shame you feel that way, i have bever had any problems with my machine. if i did i am in the fortunate position of earning a good wage, so i would replace it without hesitation. i would never never buy a 360, they vastly inferior and will be replaced by a new system long before the PS3 is finally laid to rest. There is just no potential development for the 360 other than replacement.
I only know two people with 360s and they have both had three or four RRODs each.
Still, good luck with your studies, and any money says you get a Playstation in two years when you are gaming again!!

No James. I am done with Sony. I have never really had any luck with any of their products. My cousin purchased a 42″ lcd from them and it has been a bigger nightmare for him as the Playstation 3 is for me. I went through 4 Sony dvd players in only a year. Yet, I buy some el cheapo dvd from Best Buy 4 years ago, and has never given me a single problem. I have come to the conclussion that it is all Sony's fault for producing inferior products. For those of you who have not had your blu ray drive, then get ready because it will. I just spoke to Jeff from Sony PS3 tech support, they are only reliable for up to 300 hours of cumulative play before they generally start crashing. So ha…..even Sony says they suck. Luckily, I just bought me a new samsung blu ray player. Im happy, I can watch my 60 blu rays again.

Shouldn't you also sell/throw away your Blu-ray movies since Sony is the main company behind the Blu-ray Disc Association which came up with the Blu-ray disc format?

must admit you're pretty right about sony : like most large corporations they dont give a f about us : remember how ps2's sold in japan had better , more expensive components ?????…. dont get me wrong , i dislike a xbox , they're crap , the controllers are crap , the upcoming games arent as good as ps3's , but i have never had a prob with my ps3 , and fingers crossed nothing will….having said that i love sony's Playstation system , not the Sony corp. …good luck with your degree.

There are no inconsistencies in my theory. Sony sucks. Enough said. Yes it is true that Sony did give the foundation for the blu ray format. However, since blu ray format has won the format wars…Sony has not played a larger part in comparison to various other manufacturers. Also, it should be noted Sony has lost alot of manpower due to the recession to play larger roles in the electronics world. They obviously didnt invest very well.

yeah , sony sucks , but the Playstation is the best console out (might not be solid , but its still better , proof : the xbox doesnt have a blue ray disc to break down in the first place) , and if you have issues with sony , i have issues with Microsoft… do you think sony still puts cheaper components in non-japanese products??

Only good for 300 hours!!! wow id hate to imagine the hours mine has been working….in the thousands easy….

same, ive had my 20 gig since launch & ive never had any problems.
i know i have played WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY more than 300 hours and it still works perfectly.
xbox broke in 3 weeks, no lie

i bought my ps3 2 weeks after launch, i still have it, 2 years after the fact.
i've yet to come across one problem, and i've put probably 60 hours this WEEK into gta4.
people that make these kinda posts make me laugh.
either.
A. Looking for attention to start some flame war.
B. 360 Troller coming around to start some flame war.
either way, lame attempt.

i'it's a shame to see someone so angry at something when not understanding the current circumstances fully.
seeing as how you're american, you should already know that it's economy has been depleting quite rapidly for many years. not to say other countries aren't – the UK is currently under quite a similar crisis as of late.
However, I think your descision to have neither consoles is wise. If I were you, I'd focus on those studies so that you don't end up trapped within our countries current, and more than likely future problems as well.
But just because you had some bad luck with a piece of hardware doesn't mean the company sucks. you're a fool to think that. we can all hide behind our opinions but facts can't be denied. I strongly doubt Sony will be going out of business anytime soon.

Shadeblack, your post has been one of the most respectful so far. However, read farther up. I and many of my friends and family, have had horror stories with Sony. So it is far from just one piece of hardware. There have been 4 dvd players, 2 TV's, 2 Playstation 3's, and a Vaio Laptop invovled in my decision to boycott Sony entirely. Actually read the stock market reports. Sony has had consecutive 100 million dollar losses month after month. That is a stone solid fact. So I am not hiding behind my opinions, Im relying on facts. I hope and pray that no one has to go through so many consoles with Sony as I have had to in the last 4 months. The funny thing is I play less than many of the other gamers here. I do watch blu rays as well as play games. I probably watch 1 blu ray per week, and maybe 20 hours of play time per week. So I don't over play the console. I just keep getting crap after crap from Sony. Only 18 months, then I will be a RN. So I'll be able to work in hospitals where there will always be jobs and great money. So I'll be able to buy any game I want at anytime I want. The funny thing about this whole ordeal is that I was one of the biggest PS3 fanatics. I would tell everyone to get rid of Xbox 360's to get a PS3. How wrong I was to convince them of such a costly mistake.
