Right, on one of my accounts (CantTouchDinKy) the friend list comes up but theres a few problems with it. They are…
- it only comes out in alphabetical order and tells me no ones online, although i go on my other account n they've clearly been online for quite some time !
- It doesnt even tell me when they were last online or show me their avatar !
- I cant even contact them by sending them a message !
Does anyone know what I might have done for this to happen for whats gone wrong ???

interesting… has this been happening for a while?
Is this user registered in a different country?
Maybe it will resolve it self after a while. Thats what most problems on PS3 do.

Freak – yep i've only got the problem with this account, as my others still work pretty well.
Parnakas – Not long, i was on it sunday afternoon & it was fine, but by the evening it was messed up !!!
gamerben – they've tried but i havent received anything from them !

well obviously i doubt it is a problem with your ps3 i would say its a problem with psn

some regions contain different lists of psn IDs.
this is how people make fake accounts and then spread hate mail to others. if say, for instance the psn user causing the trouble is a jpn account, it may not be looking for the same friend, even if they have the same username.
However, if the account you're having trouble with is from the same country, then this truly may be a mystery. have you tried contacting Sony about this problem? or looked on the internet for any previous incidents and/or solutions?

I know whats wrong with it now…
Before the friend list messed up i put in the comment bit ” 1 press up, 1 kill ! ” so i deleted that & all of a sudden the friend list popped up like normal !!!
So just to make sure, i put the comment back in logged off & on again and the friend list was retarded again…

wtf? Your comment normally doesnt affect your friend list.. but i guess in this case it did.. strange.

I'm fairly certain there's “one” database for PSN ID's, someone can't have the same username as someone else who resides in another region.

well i can only talk from experience.
I once had 'myself' on my friend list. he sent me and several other people very rude and inappropriate messages, to which I then had to apologise for. I later found out that this can be done through creating a japanese account with the same usertag.
Like I say, I can't confirm this with evidence, but that's what happened! Furthermore, a couple other people knew about this, so i guess they're my witnesses? lol.
anyway… Glad you found a solution to your problem, iiDiNkStErR!

Then you're probably correct 
I'm surprised that Sony let something like this to be possible, especially in regards to the “hate mail” issues and similar incidents.
At least now I don't have to get an heart attack or check my eyes if I meet “myself” in an online game
