why would you be a pussy? or why would you be smart? I always play on easy on my first run through of a game because it feels like im playing it for fun and not just for trophies, then i play on super hard or whatever because most games have a trophy for that, then i go back on easy to get collectables or any other trophies.

never play on easy at the start, i usually jump to the second highest difficulty at first and then go to vet after. I go to easy then to get basic trophies thereafter

i usually play my games on normal first then try the hardest setting, then if theres collectables i'll go back to easy for whats left.
Although some game (army of two the 40th day) are so easy i just grab the collectables on hard

Same here… Back in the good old days of 2009 I'd do the same as most posts above. The same as the Ps2, that's just the way it was done. Going through a game on easy for me takes some of the joy out of it… Playing a game easy through to hard takes the buzz out, all the standout moments you were like “WOW, that was some cool sh!t” are skipped through with out due care… “Bigger” moments in a game are only made “even bigger” when you really have to move and think quick or die… over and over again… It might sound stupid but i get a little “rush” from beating parts of a game that are punishing me… Fresh punishment, not just a scene you re-hearsed earlier, a little harder… Knowing how to beat hard a boss, by beating them on easy first… In my opinion alone, so don't get on my back… IS WEAK…
For example – Dead Space was a more exciting experience for me, knowing that i could get killed if i didn't apply enough skill and watch what i was doing at all times… Jumping at every little noise… Taking it to the limit, lol..
In 2010 though I'm gonna try and push myself more and play most (there's the fallback word, lol) games i buy on hard mode from the off, then harder if there is or easy for the collectibles… I don't ever seem to really struggle through the normal modes so why not eh? Each to there own and casual gaming's cool if that's your thing… But I'm up for the challenge, ready to bring the skills needed… Playing a game on easy straight outta the box is NEVER an option for me…

It depends on the game fo me, most games are too short these days anyway so I usually play on the hardest difficulty to make it last a bit longer.

most games are just play on normal or medium
but what annoys me are games that don't give an option for difficulty that will either make it to hard or to easy assassins creed series are really easy and they have no options

I am the exact same when it comes to gaming, I just lack the writing skills to explain every thought that comes to my head about it and end up just waffling ! Basically they are my thoughts exactly. For me MW2 was so much better because i started on Hardened mode and completed it. Dead Space was an awesome game, easy plat (mainly due to the lack of MP trophies, thank god!) but equally satisfying on the harder difficulties.

I'd rather have to play a game a few more time's to get all the trophies, rather than play it on easy to get the trophies quick… Getting a few silver and gold in the process of playing hard+ is rewarding, but for me it's the challange that's the real pay-day.
I think it's even worse, personally, when people buy a game and guide at the same time… I've seen it happen so don't think it doesn't, why not just buy the guide and read it as a book, save yourself the money… That's even lamer than playing it on easy, some might say…
I know this doesn't happen as much now with the Internet being so cheap and readily available… And i have myself used online guides to find scattered items in a game. Mostly after running round a map for a week, almost loosing the will to live – The one shard i just can't find on infamous (F!*K) But using it to play through the story missions, please…
Just a thought cause it's kinda on the same wave-lengh… kinda … Wouldn't want them to remove easy mode though 'cause then it would be a pain to find the collectibles i miss… Would be funny if some games had a “wooden spoon” trophy for doing something really, really lame in a game… Not for the plat, just for a laugh with your mates… If only, lol…

i will play the game on easy most of the time first bar COD and Uncharted to get the feel of the game and then play on harder difficulty's just to get the trophies personally i really don't like challenging myself as i get frustrated and leads to broken objects in my room and my dad shouting at me so i like to keep it easy

Neither. People who play on easy just aren't looking for a challenge, but usually just something to occupy their time. I always start on normal, for a couple reasons. First, I'm always rating a game in my head. Part of that rating is going to encompass difficulty. On normal mode, the game should offer some challenge, but be conquerable by virtually anybody. Second, if I buy a game then I have all the time in the world to play it. Therefore I'm going to take my time with it by starting on normal, and progressing by going to the next hardest difficulty each playthrough. If its really a great game I'll play all the difficulty levels and enjoy it, but if its bad at least I won't have wasted a ton of time on it, because I'll have only done normal mode. My third reason is for the same as some people listed why they would start on easy – to learn the game and its mechanics. I do feel that if you need to set the game on easy to learn how to play it, then theres something wrong with the game, or you're a slow learner. This should always be doable on normal. Games that truly shine in their harder modes require you to know the game mechanics well, and are often times more fun to play on the harder modes once you do. i.e. God of war 1 & 2, Bioshock, Uncharted 1&2…
