What i don't understand, is how a PS3 could crash due to a game.. Interesting.

But in pretty much every case i have seen, it has been MW2 inside the system.

KingOfGames – No one used to ever complain about there PS3 getting the YLOD, but recently, there has been a lot if it going on.

If anyone can find out any info please post it! I'm gonna see if i can find anything.

Some games require too much effort and stress on the cpu of the ps3. MW2 seems to be requiring much more than any other game on the market. So the fact that so many people are playing MW2, would mean much more YLOD. Hence, for trophy hoarders, just play long enough to get plat then sell mw2 before it crashes your ps3 lol. I just got plat on it, and now selling my game.

Nodanod – I have got my PS3 since EU launch day so around 3 years

             – It was the 60GB model but I did take that out and put a 250GB one in.

My PS3 is dead whatever I did or didn't do to it doesn't matter anymore I just want to get the bloody game out. One thing is to lose a broken PS3 but not a perfectly working game.

yeah, lol, well its well out ov warranty then, and cos its a 60gb there is no emergency release disk function, pretty much the same position as i was in Fools

The way i saw it, there were only 2 options :

  • Ring up sony, and pay £128 to part exchange your broken console for another refurbished console (i saw this as pretty pointless, as although sony will send ur disc back, you only get 3 months warranty on the new refurb. 1, meaning it could well YLOD again.)

OR……..

  • Take the console open, try to get the disc out by following youtube vid. and start afresh with a new console. Its very annoying, as you've lost the console, but if ur careful u can get the disk out, took me about an hour 2 get the console stripped down to the board, then only to find out this attempted fix Ylod method requires a heat gun :P lol, but the bluray drive is easyish 2 get 2, and not that hard to open.

The way i saw it was i had nothing 2 lose, so i might aswell try 2 save my disc. But obv. this is your judgement, if u want 2 defo save ur disc and get a refurb console, or DIY and get disc out… Laugh

Let me know if u have any questions…. LaughLaugh

its defo weird… if any game were to enhance the probability of Ylod, i'd have thought a game like GTA would be, or another very heavily detailed game, not MW2.Smile

sorry to hear it.

what i did was got it fixed at grainger games for £100 as i didnt want lose any of my saves but then it broke again 1 month out of warranty (you only get 1 month warranty with grainger games) but they still fixed it for free. it looks like if your ps3 has broke dont get it repaired as it is prone to break again. stupid 60gb. ironically the 60gb ps3 that i got fixed again is working fine, its not as loud as it was after 1st repair but once i can be arsed to get a memory stick i'll be transferring all the data to my slim.

i dont think its MW2 as really it could be any disc inside and still brake, its just that loads of people are playing MW2 is why its mostly MW2 stuck in.

I had my blu ray drive die on me twice on my old 40gb ps3. After I paid Sony (the first repair was free due to warranty) and it died again….i got it fixed, then sold it and a few of stupid games on ebay for a nice penny got over $418 for my old 40gb ps3 with cod:waw and some other stupid game….then bought a new 80gb ps3. When I bought my new ps3, squaretrade.com was having a special on 4 year warranties. So I got a 4 year warranty through them for $105, which is well worth it in the end. So now I have no more worries about mine crashing.

This is the 6 – part “YLOD fix vid” – altho it did give me a very gd understanding of where the components and cables are fitted.

Those were the two vids i used, but if u want2, search around a bit on youtube. There are loads of videos on taking consoles apart etc. Laugh

Well what I am going to do is break into my blu-ray drive to salvage my disc, then in a few weeks I shall have a new PS3 slim (saving for a rainy day has finally paid off :D ). Although I want to put my 250GB HDD into my new PS3 slim when I get it so does anybody know how to remove the hardrive in a slim?

im afraid so the ps3 will auto reformat a hdd when it detects a new one placed in it, at least all models up to the slim did, the slim may be different but i doubt it

when you put your hard drive in, you will most likely lose all your data. You should have backed it up on a USB Stick or something like that. But at least your trophies don't go away!

I backed it up the first time when I put it in my old 60GB. So if I can find the external HDD I will only lose Uncharted 2, MW2 and Call of Duty Classic data I think. It's going to be a pain to do them Spec Ops again if I do lose the data.

If we are talking about transferring data over the new 3.15 update was made for that reason , all you need is two PS3s both with the update ( i think ) and a LAN cable for connection . Switching my 60GB tommorow , and yes products with licenses can also be transferred .

i m sick of people complaining about MW2. it didnt give you YLOD , maybe it has to do with the sheer age of the 60GBs (notice most of the YLODs are on 60GBs?) and stop whining 'oh MW2 is overhyped' when you took the time to plat it (i'll agree its far from  perfect and has more issues than most games)  -want an overhyped game? uncharted 2 , the stunning visuals make you believe its the greatest game of the year  , agreed the storyline is action packed but forgive me if i say they needn't bother trying to do a mp on U3. that one is utter bs.
