One of my Ps3's has just gone faulty and i need help here is what happens when i turn it on:
it starts normally but cuts out half way through the noise that happens when you turn it on…
then a yellow light comes on for a sec then it flashes red light…

A friend of mine called sony when his PS3 had something like that happen. His was a clicking noise. Yours sounds like maybe a software issue. Have you tried calling sony?

I believ thats the YLOD (yellow light of death), happens when the ps3 overheats, if i were you id contact SONY for a repair, or wait for a couple hours for the fan to cool or buy a fan cooling system thing (their around £20), but personally i think SONY would be your best option

Wow you must be unlucky for that to occur. The ps3 has a failure (YLOD) rate of less than 0.5%.

Its nearly 2 years old and tbh i want it fixed but it doesnt really effect me cuz i have a spare ps3... wooo

anyway, as Ratchet said, the PS3 failure rate is EXTREMELY low, as oppose the shitbox's which is like 101%.
Did you back up your save files?
And definately phone Sony, even though i hate the guys over there, and see what they can do for you. They will probably say: Thats nice, send it in for $1000 and we will try to fix your problem.

Yeah, I had a problem on my ps3 were nothing was loading.I called Sony. They kept saying "go to to ...." im like its not loading it i can't! And if i pressed anything the ps3 will freeze. Then they told me how to fix it and said if doesn't work send in your ps3 for 450 dollars to fix it. Im like wtf! thats more than i payed for it.

That definitly sounds like Ylod. It is rare to happen although if you go to the playstation.com boards they would have you thinking otherwise. Anyways dont listen to anyone about the price to get it fixed. Obviously they havnt actually called Sony. It costs $150 dollars to get your system fixed and has always been $150 dollars to get it fixed since this ylod thing started.They even send you out the box to send it back in. Although if its still under warranty they fix it for free. Ps3 Freak, Calling sony is going to be your best bet.

had no problems with my ps3 over 2yrs old had a friends whos ps3 bluray drive broke though

parnakes: Its not really a spare ps3, i bought the 1st ps3 (which is broke) with my brothers 33% of the cost each, then i bought my own about a year later... so technically its a spare but you know...

2 years old- i believe that means its a 60gb? Well… i've still not known many ps3s 2 go wrong but if yours is a 60gb, they are the majority of the 1s to break. My old 60 gb broke just inside warranty (blu-ray drive went), so now i've got a refurbished 1,  very loud, and every time i use it for too long i swear it is on the verge of dying

I've got an 80gig. I've had it for around 7 months now, and not one problem. Dunno what to say for the future though as it's now on 24/7
|

I have a launch 20GB, with a 160GB HDD. I have never had any problems with the system itself..
But i have had a lot of problems with PSN.
