Quite a few of you guys have replaced your hard-drives with bigger ones, it’s something I’m going to do with my latest PS3 and I was wondering what would be a reasonable size? I know the PS3 is compatible with some pretty large hard drives but “compatible with” doesn’t always equate to “function properly”.

If I have learned anything from my time working in the service industry it’s that for quite a few people, the basic theories behind the use of a toilet are absolute mysteries…

It's working fine with HD's up to 500GB. Which I think is also the largest ones available atm.

I have a 500GB hard drive in mine. Took me all of a few minutes to change out. It just took a few hours to back up my data before hand.

I'm running a Samsung 500GB 2.5 SATA drive at 5400RPM.

I wouldn't recommend going for one at 7200RPM as this may create more heat. 5400RPM is perfectly fine.

Also remember to sync your trophies before you back up your data and do the swap!

And research the exact steps you should take to do the swap out. I know it isn't rocket science but if you do things a different way you may run into all sorts of errors when you try to update your trophies. I did. And that's because i didn't update my trophies before i backed up. So the ones that were missing made an error pop up. Luckily it was only 5 trophies, so once i re earned them the error went away.

some may find this guide quite helpful:

@Oz-Metalhead
@ShadeBlack

Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately backing up my hard-drive isn’t an issue as the death of my (second!) PS3 took all my data with it. I’ll be starting from scratch again so I thought I’d upgrade the hard-drive straight away.
