I just thought about this. Why do we need a 3d tv for the 3d gaming. Sly 3 on the ps2 was in 3D with the glasses and you can play this on your normal TV. Can anyone tell me the difference really?

Because of better picture, and quality most likely. If there are tvs that are specifically designed for 3D, they will obviously work a lot better than a regular tv trying to support 3D.

And because they know people will buy it of course! All about money in this world..

Alot of existing TV’s already have 3D capabilities that is why Sony is going through with it because they believe it’ll be better for everyone.

Im guessing its more then just putting on your paper blue and red 3D Glasses and playing Sly . Better picture , sound , and when a TV is made for 3D with a 3D game its going to look better then just putting on glasses and getting a cheap effect .

it's because there are different types of 3d technologies.

the latest 3d tech requires more than the standard red/blue (anaglyphic) crud.

hieroglyphic red/blue works by taking two frames – one of each colour. combining them together to create a slightly off- very cheap 3d effect. cost productive, but actually throws off your sense of depth not only creating the illusion but also causing damage to the eyes.

some tvs are indeed already 3d capable.  the tv set needs to have a minimum refresh rate of 120hz, and support hdmi v1.4.  these tv's 3d capabilities are limited to lcd shutter glasses.

alternate frame sequences are used in these glasses. the glasses are controlled by applying a voltage through the lcd display.  although invisible to naked eye, the glasses will darken over one eye and alternate, as well as continuously refresh the frame rate and synchronise with the rate of the tv.  for more info on: alternate frame sequencing

to actually standardise recently 3d advances is a huge challenge for any single company for obvious reasons. however, most are competing to get a 3d television sets without the need of any glasses at all during 2011.

In retrospect, we can see that in order to standardise 3d TV, people need to understand to wait for the technology to catch up, and become more available for home and commercial use.

it's not that it can't be done, it's just that it costs a 'small' fortune to develop and distribute.

shade you are just too damn smart lol Laugh

i will definitely wait till like 2012 to even consider a 3d tv so that there are no glasses tv's and have had time to fix early issues that will arise. imagine…cod in 3d lol

has anyone heard of sony’s new rumoured project on discs? they are rumoured to be making something they call a HVD (holographic versatile disc), and it will hold 6TB of data compared to a blu ray’s 25gb of data, i dont even think you can get a 6TB external hard drive without getting something custom built!, anyone see the point in these discs if they do become reality or are they going to play a big role in this 3d gaming without the `cool` shades

The whole 3D thing sounds pointless imo. i definately wouldn't buy a new TV just to experience a 3D game. I can just imagine the amount of headaches i'd get with 3D glasses on…
