No need to be sorry it was a good discussion I just didn't want it to resort to a bunch of fanboy comments, were all better then that, we all love PS3 otherwise we wouldn't be on this site conversing with each other so lets just leave it at that. Sorry if I seemed a bit rude in my posts, it tends to happen at times just ask the others.

Hi all,

May be there are lots of reasons as well as lots of benefits from PS3 compare to xbox. But here according to me these are benefits,

10. This may or may not matter to you, but it's a bit large, and it's a bit heavy. Weighing in at around 11 pounds, the PS3 is the size of a really thick textbook. If you have to move it around, it'll start getting annoying.

9. You may have already bought an Xbox 360. Don't underestimate the head start Microsoft got on Sony.

8. If you're a PC gamer, why do you need a console, unless you play the few games that are exclusive to consoles these days? That used to be an issue before, but computers caught up to game consoles several years ago.

7. 256MB of system memory seems like too little. Based on my PC gaming experiences, some games use more than twice that. It may be different on the PS3, but I can't see why. In fact, with 8 cores running simultaneously, I'd imagine you'd want more memory, not less.

6. The Blu-ray drive is unnecessary, and you can bet you'd pay a lot less with a standard DVD drive. Their games probably don't have the need for that much space on the disc anyway, and they won't for a while. Plus, it's just Sony's way of getting you to buy into Blu-ray instead of HD-DVD (their competitor in the high-definition disc market).

5. Between the two versions of the PS3, if you want all the stuff Sony's bragging about you clearly have to pay for the expensive one. If you want a real HD output, you need the HDMI out, which
is only on the expensive version. Same with the MemoryStick, SD, and CompactFlash card reader and the wireless network adapter.

4. Why does it come with a hard drive? Maybe I want a bigger one, like one of those new 200GB hard drives, instead of either 20 or 60. Should I just throw the other one away? I'd rather buy the PS3 without a hard drive for less money, and then upgrade it on my own. This actually falls in along with the Blu-ray thing. Sony's basically just trying to load in as much stuff as they can to add to the price. It's like a car manufacturer making a GPS unit standard in the car you want to buy, then charging you $3,000 for it, when you could go to Best Buy and buy one for $500.

3. After Sony's announcement that they were going to add motion sensors to their controllers (coincidentally, a short while after Nintendo announced that their controllers would be motion- and orientation-sensing), their controller is halfway between being a standard controller and an innovation, which leaves them with neither. Microsoft has a standard controller; Nintendo has an innovation; Sony's sitting on the fence.

2. The Cell processor looks great on paper, but IBM claims 10 to 20 percent yields when they actually try to manufacture it. Your PS3 may actually come with only 7 of the 8 cores working; Sony will accept any processor with at least 7 cores working. And if one of the cores dies…well, I hope your warranty's still active.

1. The price is outrageous. $600 for a game console? You could buy two (yes, two) computers from Dell with that much money. Granted, neither of them would be good for much, but still, you get my point. I think you get a free upgrade to LCD monitors, too.

@johnsteveen

I will reply to your points in order

10. Most people I know with a PS3 have it set up in their living room or bedroom, how exactly is this a negative. Unless you have arthritis then moving it would not be a problem.

9. We all know the 360 came out first but the truth is their that the head start they had is fading rapidly and nobody, not even the biggest XBOX fan-boy can deny that. Heavy Rain, GOW3 2 great exclusives to come out this year, where is Microsoft's equivalent of those 2.

8. The only real advantage of playing on a PC is that alot of developers will give PC gamers dedicated servers, I do play some games on PC and thats the only real advantage. Also not all games are released on PC so it comes down to how much people want a particular game.

7. Does it really matter what the system memory is your not saving any content directly to it.

6. The point that is always brought up by the XBOX fan-boys, what does it matter whether it is necessary or not it has it and the XBOX doesn't plain and simple and in case you were taking a snooze for all of 2008 HD-DVD lost and Blu-ray won there was only 1 major supporter when it came to the actual HD-DVD players and that was Toshiba, they now make Blu-ray players.

5. Most retailers will throw in a HDMI cable for free anyway and the cheapest is a mere $30 so if you can't afford that then you should not be buying a PS3 in the first place but since they are not actually needed to use the console and only to support the HD features then not having one is not really an issue.

4. It's all about marketing my friend, why do you have to buy one for the 360? It's strategic marketing because most people will go for the option that does not have them paying a ridiculous price for add-ons. Also the replacement of the PS3 hard drive takes a mere 5 minutes if you know what your doing and if you don't need the old one then have you not heard of eBay, I was able to pick up $50 for my 60GB HDD which I then put towards my 500GB one.

3. How exactly does it matter that the PS3 controller is motion sensitive, it makes for one good gaming experience. Try playing Heavy Rain to see the full potential.

2. From Wikipedia: The PlayStation 3 uses the Sony, Toshiba, IBM-designed Cell microprocessor as its CPU, which is made up of one 3.2 GHz Power-PC-based “Power Processing Element” (PPE) and eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SP-Es). The eighth SPE is disabled to improve chip yields. How is improving something bad exactly.

1. Now me personally I like to have all the accessories for my consoles so here in Australia these are the prices for me to get a XBOX 360 and PS3 both with the add-ons I desire. XBOX Arcade Console: $299, Controller: $74.98, Charging Kit: $34.98, Wireless Adaptor(because it can't connect wirelessly to my router)$109, Wireless Headset: $64.98, XBOX Live 12 month Gold subscription: $89.95 this comes to a total of $672.89. PS3 120GB Slim Console: $469, Controller: $94.98, Wireless Headset: $74.98, which comes to a total of $638.96. So I'm not exactly sure where you live and how much the prices vary there but the PS3 is the cheaper option for someone like me here in Australia.

I'm definitely up for a friendly debate if you care to discuss it more.

Even if you are a PC gamer, you'd still want a PS3, because a lot of games are PS3 exclusives. I will say though that the 256MB of ram is pathetic for such a powerful system. Sony thought that the cell procesor could make up for the lack of RAM, but in some instances you can see that the PS3 needs more RAM.

Miiiitch has covered most of the bases nicely so I'll try to tag on a few bits without repeating what he said.

First off, in point six you don't seem too fond of the inclusion of a blu-ray drive as it undoubtedly bumped up the price. But at the time of release the PS3 was cheaper than most of the good blu-ray players out there. It was an ideal way for gamers to upgrade to hi-def. It's still a bargain: only a few months ago I was buying a blu-ray home cinema system but found it was actually cheaper to but a DVD home cinema and a PS3 slim. I saved €200 and gained all the features of the PS3.

Most of the issues you raise in point five aren't actually problems at all. The slim comes with a wireless network adapter and the extra card readers in the front of the 60Gig model are all but obsolete. Nearly every gadget that uses them also has USB.

Point four is grand as long as you have a basic knowledge of HDDs. Sony had to make their console accessible for everyone and there are still a Hell of a lot of people that have zero technical know-how. Their console needs to be plug-and-play. A person can happily drive a car without a GPS but their console won't run too smoothly sans HDD.

Point two: I don't really care about the motion sensor in the controller. I do, however, enjoy not having to buy batteries or fork out for a charger pack

And finally, Miiiitch has shown that, extras included, the price between the current incarnations of the systems are not so different but you quoted the launch price of the PS3 and at that time to bring the 360 up to par required the Hi def drive which came out at €200.

Yes, you could have bought two Dell PCs for the same price. Good luck trying to run a decent game on them thoughSmile

If I have learned anything from my time working in the service industry it’s that for quite a few people, the basic theories behind the use of a toilet are absolute mysteries…

Absolutely not. Xbox has like no exclusives, when you compare the mass amount of great exclusives PS3 has. Most were mentioned above.

The one thing i would say that the 360 is better at, is overheating! Laugh

Ok lets talk about the exclusives ps3 have much better exclusives.

1.GOW series

2.Demons souls

3.Resistance series

4.Killzone series

Uncharted series

Lets go now to XBOX360 exclusives

1. Halo series

2. Alan wake

3. Gears of war 2

I cannot think more exclusives

And also i dont want anyone of you to say that you didnt count L4D or sprinter cell conviction or Mass effect. I didnt count them beacause there are on pc to when a game is exclusive it is only on ps3 or xbox or pc. And my opinion is that halo is like COD they have made 5 games. The graphics in all of the games of halo sucks and also it doesnt offer many new things and i personally believe that  a good series must make only 3 games and not publishing a new game every year. The better movies and games usually are making a trilogy like Lord of the rings, GOW and i am suspecting that Resistance 3 is going to end in the next game. And also if a company wants to keep making long series they should take the exmaple of FF. Every game was a uniqe story and world.

Miiitch did a great job of explaining a few things. And for those of you in the UK Tescos are doing HDMI cables for like £5! Thats a bloody steal!

And to add a few exclusive franchises:

The Ico series (cant wait for the last guardian!)

Ratchet and Clank series

Infamous

But to give credit where credit is due, Xbox does have Fable…Confused

since i have both now, may i say that:

360s:

dashboard is much much better

it has msn and facebook is much easier to navigate on xbox compared to ps3

much better servers and i can get into a fifa online H2H match on xbox 100% of the time whereas on ps3 sometimes it just says game session has ended

party chat AND private chat, enough said

sky tv, instead of buyin a box, all you need to do is get a membership and sign up

imo controllers are better

gamerscore & achievements beat trophies imo too

microsoft points are much cheaper (£17.99 i think) and its worth just the same as a £20 psn card

ps3:

it makes much less noise

has many more exclusives and in general better

much much cheaper tbh as you need loads for xbox inc. a chat pad is essential if your in a game and need to msg people because it takes ages otherwise and you cant speak in party chat at certain times, also you need to get a rechargeable battery pack instead of keep wasting money on batteries, a wireless adapter to connect to your router (£50!!!!!)

less worry about ylod compared to rrod

blu ray

thats all i can think of atm :P

Ohhhhh Coloccini, when you captain The Mags, oh Coloccini, you will get plenty of shags, oh Coloccini, my mam’s joining the queue! (8) … PSN – NuFc_kNoXiE_KiLa … XBL Gamertag – iNUFC iKnoxie
