Right, ive had a quick look on the forum and can see a guide on how to fix it which looks good but that kinda thing id always screw up. basically whilst playing fallout new vegas my 60gb original ps3 finally turned off and after only turning back on for a few seconds i noticed that the light goes yellow. it is really old, ive had it since about a month after UK release, so its really really old, therefore is there any point in me trying to fix it or is it just past its time now? and is there anyway to get my fallout saves if i do? cheers

IMO,the smartest thing you can do is to fix it and sell it on ebay.  the 60 gigs fetch ALOT more money than any other ones. I say to sell it because, once you fix it, its going to go out again. I have quite a few friends who have went to “heat gun” route, just to have theyre PS3 do the same shit. Soi would fix it, sell it, and go buy yourself a shiny new 320 gig with move, and drop an extra 40 on an old ps2.

Also, your fallout save is screwed(im like 99% sure) so sorry bro….

Your save should be fine as long as the console didn't die while it was saving. Any saves that aren't locked should also be fine to copy and if you think you're console can last long enough to do a full back-up then even the locked saves will get transferred.

The back-up is also handy because it copies all install data and games so you can save a lot of time when you get a new one.

And definitely take Jenkem's advice on trading it in or selling it. The heat-gun fix is very rarely permanent.

One last thing to mention, if you do fix it then before selling it, make sure to deactivate all profiles on the console so you don't use up one of your five 'lives'. This can be done through account management. Deleting the profile isn't enough.

If I have learned anything from my time working in the service industry it’s that for quite a few people, the basic theories behind the use of a toilet are absolute mysteries…

if you really cant fix it yourself, you could always get it fixed at somewhere e.g grainger game (i know they fix it, maybe GAME do too) where i think it costs £80, then when you get it back you can copy the saves and then sell it to somewhere else for £150 (well, thats what i got for mine). so you still make £70 profit which can go to a new ps3. another thing, remember to take the plate on the side of the manufacturer off bcos if they see its been fixed they may not let you trade it in.

btw only do it that way if you cant fix the ps3 yourself.

Well the same thing happened 2 my Brother in-law. He had a Original PS3 the 1st day of Release here in the U.S. He payed almost $800 for the damn thing, NE Ways, It YLOD'd him 3 days B4 Christmas last year.

So i talked him in 2 Buying a 250GB Slim, & he Did. So i brought my PS3 Slim over 2 his house and i Swapped out my HDD & put his “OLD” HDD in2 my Slim, connected a “5e Patch” ethernet cable 2 his “NEW” 250GB PS3 Slim.

Fired both systems up, after he set up all his settings we transfered all the contents of his “Original” HDD on MY PS3 Slim 2 HIS “NEW SLIM” Using the “DATA TRANSFER UTILITY” under “SYSTEM SETTINGS”……..  It took Appox 50mins 2 complete.

Hope this helps, Because it help my Brother In-Law & now he is Complete Again.Laugh
