those ratings are bullshit if they think violence comes from games, they have to go to a fucking shrink. violence is everywhere.
for me gaming is an outlet, it takes away my stress. and the blood gore isn't that high, bad langauge you hear or read everywhere. why the heck not in games?

I think you might have somewhat missed the point… Age ratings are standard protection for the underaged. although there is now some conclusive evidence stating violence does not affect video games or their users, presenting a 18+ horror to a 12 year old can still easily cause some emotional trauma.
Many games are quite capable of delivering paranoia, hightened states of cautiousness etc. to people; Particularly the underaged.
I believe they're guidelines above anything else. lets not forget that the legal issues involved state that the parents are allowed to buy it for you as long as they understand that the age rating is there for a reason. a 17 year old is not alllowed to buy an 18 rated game because it has potential to cause minor emotional trauma to them.
Others will argue a teenager knows exactly what they can do, are capable of doing and or watching etc. But the truth is younger people are far more susceptable of absorbing bad imagery. with video games becoming more and more realistic, the imagery on screen becomes easily augmented into one's vivid imagination.
