If you have a setup that is.
im interested in knowing how people have set up their home theatre systems, what products and applications they use as well.
as an example, here's a brief of mine:
PC running xbmc live, networked to an 8tb media server over gigabit ethernet. includes ps3, freesat had and wii all connected to a 5.1 surround sound media hub. and of course the tv.
on another pc I'll use Media companion to organise all the movies and tv shows. AnyDVD to rip to .iso. Fairuse to encode to files h264 .mkv.
so, anyone else here a bit of a media enthusiast?

Well this might be a disappointment, but I just have my tv set up to my PS3, which is all connected to a 5.1 surround sound system. However, I did custom build 2 of my speakers in the setup =D
I never connect my PC to my tv, I usually just use my PS3, it plays a lot of different files!

I'd love to get a nice surround system, but my gaming chair creates the atmosphere good enough. At the moment, i've got my PS3 hooked up to the gaming chair (Decent quality, not as good as my old Pyramat though).

as for the surround sound, i have the bose v30 media hub. the speakers are tiny (see the pic), but produce amazing sound quality. it's also got a wireless unit for the rear speakers. I actually prefer the surround sound produced in my living room than all my local cinemas.
does anyone else here dabble in media ripping?

Well.. i didn't build the speakers themselves, I just built the tower and connected all the speakers inside together. And I'll see if I can get a decent pic up soon.
And if I do say so myself, that rug/carpet underneath your coffee table is absolutely beautiful
Oh and Shade, I know what you mean. I usually prefer living room surround sound systems to the ones at the cinemas. Even my setup, which is nothing really special. I just like the way sound is projected in a smaller sized room.. maybe thats just me.

umm ask a silly question etc, why have you posted a linkto a rugselling website? i was slightly confused at that.
I personally ond't think i need a surround system for my tv in my room, as it is so small and i tihnk it sounds ok for me, however my family have thought of getting one for the living room (where my living on a prayer 60gb ex-ylod'ed ps3 currently lies….), but once again the sound is already decent quality, if i we see a cheapish one pop up which offers good quality then we might get it….
Edit:i'd like to point out my keyboards sensitivity is starting to die, again, thus bad typing, it's favourite mistake is spelling think like `tihnk`....thus expect bad typing over te next week

Bose surround? Feeling the jealousy in this corner. How much did that set you back?
I use two set-ups myself.
In the sitting room I have two PS3s hooked up to a 55" and 37" with 5.1 running off the larger TV.
Then in my room I have another PS3 on a 46" with 5.1 and that also has my PC plugged into it.

parn said he like the design of the rug in the pic above... that's where we go it from, and there a full picture of it. that's all really...
@I773D...
well it was the speaker and the hub ofc, which cam eto 2k brand new. you can get them cheaper if you opt for the reconditioned option.
you should post a couple pictures of your setup! also, do you run any kind of media centre software on the pcs like XBMC or boxee etc?

Gnilsia has a media centre set up but I don't use it. I don't have much in the way of digital media (apart from music, which is saved on each PS3 anyway) so I tend not to need it. I do want to pick up a media server though, simply as a handy back-up for storing anything important. After two dead PS3s, I've become a big fan of saving things multiple times!

I've got to say, my set up is disappointing too. I just have my PS3 HDMI'd up to my TV, a 22" LG. I don't have the space for surround sound, other wise I would. But pretty soon my family will get a new TV. We currently have one of those big silver box things. It's like living in the 80's when I'm down there. I don't really venture into my living room very much.
I have a MacBook, so but recently have been trying to hook it up to my TV. I'll get that done eventualy .-.
I'd like to have a huge screen when I get my own place though. I'm not giving up games, and with forms of media and what not still evolving, it'd be a good investment.
Also, Shade, I see you have a website. It's linked on your username. Is this thread trying to gather up a few of us interested in this stuff and showing us the site?

Also, I didn't even notice you had your own website. I just checked it out. Looks cool, not a lot of content though obv. But I'll sign up.
Sorry for bringing this off-topic man..

@i77...
media servers are indeed an amazing things and well worth the money if you can one that has raid support as well as other stuff like ftp and dlna. what'd i'd say though is do a lot of research before you go with a particular product, and try not to buy anything too cheap as it will be your downfull
@ninjacat
lols well actually you could call it research... i don't really go to other forums, so knowing more about what people tend to go for does actually interest me. the site im doing is in it's very early stages, even though it's been up for a few months now. im hoping to get a lot more content on it as time goes by. and perhaps help those who'd like to do something similar to what i've done. also just for the sake of passing on the knowledge, I feel it's worth doing.
@parn
thanks for the support! [copies and pastes response to ninjacat about 'content']
don't worry about being off-topic, I love off-topic! I just watched Dawn of the Dead for some reason – I always love watching that film
