i really would like to give this a shot but there are no places to learn near me.
Mirrors Edge has inspired me to try this, how do u guys feel about it.

the bad thing is there are so many tricks an styles it takes years to learn

and the said it takes about 2 years to master
|

it takes way longer than 2 years to master parkour. those guys on top gear sucked.. lol. i used to do PK alot, but ive gotten lazy altely.. http://www.pkcali.com is a good place to go for event info, and getting to know the basics.. i have 2 vids on youtube of when i first started.. i lost my camcorder since then, but i was also featured on a local news article a while back.. http://www.youtube.com/user/japanmanwhiteboy

i would say it takes about 2 years to be comfortable with knowing your limits, thats what keeps a traceur safe and alive. in mirrors edge it shows the optimal path in red, while seeming kinda silly, it is actually in-line with how you begin to think of the world around you as you progress in parkour. its commonly reffered to “PK vision” its the a second decision made in your mind by observing the options around, the key idea is moving fluidly.

someone posted saying there are so many styles and tricks,, this is not true.. the key element if parkour is not rule based, its free flowing, not flashy.. the optimal way to get from point a to point b, no matter whats inbetween. it was developed as a means of evasion.
freerunning, however is very similar to parkour, but add more stylistic elements, and flips. etc.
theres a really cool movie starring the founder of parkour, david belle. its a french movie, District B13.
