I have just read on N4G what you can exclusively get with a premium account and one of them is cross game voice chat. Obviously this means that this feature cant be used with a free account when it comes out.

that actually sucks big hairy donkey balls!!! but i guess people will start paying… i hope that sony will treat people that pay for it better too, like quicker updates and such.. that would make me feel more loved lol and make it feel like im getting my moneys worth because atm, i wouldnt ever pay for PSN, when it sucks!

where can u find more info about psn updating to platinum accounts? and voice chat being a feature? i dont think itd be an extra feature for platinum users because im pretty sure that ud need to download a firmware update to get the new apps… so we'll have to wait and find out

“SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral and PlayStation Network,” said Hirai (via Eurogamer). “Especially in the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services.”
When asked for comment, Sony Computer Entertainment America stated they have nothing to officially announce at this time.
“We are looking into a variety of options but have nothing to announce at this point in time,” a SCEA spokesperson told IGN.
It's unlikely Sony would begin charging for online play such as Microsoft does with its Xbox Live service. This premium model would most likely center around additional video or game content, such as exclusive first-looks at trailers and demos.

mmmmm, depends how much the premium is. It won't be worth it if it's just for cross game chat unless it's pretty cheap.

Be careful man! I'm after sharing info I found on N4G as well, and it usually turns out to be wrong.
Lets be realistic about one thing: Sony has ALWAYS been saying that current PSN will remain free. They are looking into ADDITIONAL premium services, but PSN as we know it will remain unchanged.
Beyond that, if we get cross game chat, I'd figure that it would be on free PSN. Think about it…what good is cross game chat if only the paying customers have it? So once again, everyone relax. The only confirmed info from sony is that PSN will remain free. Whatever those additional premium services are…no one knows yet.

I don't like the idea of paying for services like this. You already pay enough for the system, you over pay for games (lets be honest, some games last 5-6 hours and cost $80 with tax), and now they want us to pay for other things on top of all that? It rubs me the wrong way.

This is probably whats getting more rumors started, but IF this is what they'll be offering I'll probably pay for it. I've ALWAYS wanted the ability to have my saves backup online. Plus the whole “Try any PSN game for an hour” thing is amazing too! I don't know what “Tokens” are for, but apparently Sony filed a trademark a long time ago on something called “P.S. Thanks” Which may also be a rewards program for subscribers….oh yeah, and the free premium themes as well.
Anyways, all four of those items are even things people are not currently getting for paid xbox live subscriptions. You ever even check the crazy prices for premium xbox themes? (note: they are NOT even nice dynamic ones like we got!) You gotta admit if thats what they're offering it'll be worth something!

The tokens thing is kind of interesting. I definitely want to learn more about this…
I could live without the rest though. I don't buy premium themes, never will. I think what everyone is looking for is cross-game chat, but I won't be paying for it if its a “pay-for-use” service, I'll just continue living without it as I've been doing since I started gaming I guess.

Yeah, Cross game chat is useless (in my opinion). I paid for 360's live for a few years and used it a couple times to try it, but it's a total waste for me.
For the premium themes for free – I want to get all the “Hot Chicks with the massive cans” themes! I'd get to have my girlfriend scowl at me everytime I turn my PS3 on. Thats right, I like to live dangerously

i bet people got the psn premium idea from some info over paying methods for upcoming mmo such as agent and ff14 and it all got mixed around leaving people confused

Can someone just clarify cross game chat for me?
If I was playing say MW2 and my mate was playing U2 can we talk to each other during our seperate online games? Can people who are in the multiplayer game with me hear me talking shit to my friend?
Cause if that's the case and I was in a game and someone was talking to a mate about some chick they'd banged last night or about how much noise the exhaust on their souped-up Vauxhall Corsa made it would do my fcuking head in!!!

When you make a chat room with your friends, only your friends will be able to hear you. No one in the game will be able to hear you, unless it is one of your friends.
As long as Basic PSN stays free, We have nothing to worry about.

I hope they keep it all as it is, the sole reason I bought a PS3 was the fact that it was free online gaming, no subscriptions, just play to your hearts content.
In some ways I agree with Collbreast_23 if I was to pay the PSN had to improve significantly as it's a big pile of crap at the minute & the games should come down in price too! Some of them are extortionate, even though the game's turd!
If Sony follow suit to the 360 too much then the console war would be over as the only differences would be the name on your console. The whole point of a console war is that the respective company baits gamers to buy their console…individuality is key to victory. Exclusives & a built in Blu-Ray won't do it seeing as Blu-Ray players are starting to come down in price now & exclusives are very few & far between. I mean PS3's future can't rest on the shoulders of Nate Drake, Ratchet, Snake, Kratos & Sackboy forever. Free online gaming is a BIG booster IMO, who wants to pay a broadband bill for online gaming every month & then pay AGAIN to play the bloody games, come who? Hands up people who'd like to do that. No-one whatso ever? Thought as much. I think if this goes through then Sony have well & truly lost. I won't be getting rid of my console, it'd be pointless as I'd only have to go through the same crap with the 360!
Please note this is just my opinion so no nasty reprisals guys & gals, freedom of speech, everyone is entitled to voice their concerns.
