Why are you even thinking about the story this much? You say you don't want to hate this game, but you've just created even more ways for the game to disappoint you. If the story matches your predictions, you'll just be “I thought so” and your opinion of the game will remain unchaged. If it doesn't match, the only way your opinion of the game will get better is if the ending's actually better than you thought. And you're already prepared to be mad at EA (who have little/nothing to do with the story) if they have a cliche ending that you've fabricated?
By the way, this is unrelated, but I've been wanting to know how this works for a while. You dislike Call of Duty and other series that churn out the same crap year after year, but when Dead Space 3 tries to change, you're pissed because it's different? If you had never liked Dead Space in the past, and you didn't like the sound of this one, then fair enough. I just think if you're a fan of the first two, then at least play the third one (for real, not a demo) before you absolutely decide that it's awful. Again, fair enough. It did take me, for example, 12 chapters of Spec Ops before I started liking it at all. I could've just stopped 6 chapters in and said it's the worst thing ever and everyone's stupid for thinking otherwise. I mean, wasn't it annoying that I was bashing that game before I even knew the whole story? I don't know if I'm going to like Dead Space 3 more or less than the previous two, so I'm going to wait until I've played a good portion of it before I make that judgment and keep the speculation out so it doesn't cloud my opinions before I've even played it. Because I wanna be fair, especially with a series I've liked so much in the past.
