Ahhhh… “Copy-protected” saves is it. Some people say you can, some people say you can't…
RB, along with more and more games these days, come complete with CP meaning that you use them on one Ps3. The save get encrypted with your Ps3's serial No. or something rendering them useless unless you use the same system… Problem being is that how do you remove your HDD without it being re-formatted? Well you can't, and that's where everyone gets pissed off with CP saves…
I can remember restoring my RB onto my Ps3 after a got it back from Sony… sure of it. But the problems are with people getting back diff. systems from Sony and as your not sending it away i think you could “back it up” then restore it… But i wouldn't risk it myself as I'm not 100% sure and i wouldn't want you to try it, lose your CP saves then hunt me down and kill me… You would have to back-up the whole system to try and see if this works or not as you can't transfer individual CP saves…
IMO – Find someone with a relatively new and empty Ps3, use the “transfer data” feature from the XMB and transfer your CP saves (along with all other save files) to it (like a safe). The CP saves will then delete automatically from the original machine. Buy a new HDD or whatever then repeat the process onto your new HDD. It wouldn't help with your DL'd stuff but your CP saves would be intact at least… Just remember to check the system your using as a “safe” doesn't have CP saves on it or trouble would arise as only one system would be able to have all the saves on it at one time!
