i've been playing the multiplayer myself since i finished everything on the single player (which was excellent).
I saw a review the other day that said “a sequel that surpassed the original”. I don't agree with that at all, however, it is indeed up to par with the first. “As good.”
the multiplayer is pretty good – however, i found it a little hard to get into it at first as nothing is explained really. you're stuck right in the middle of things and you have to just figure it out for yourself. for someone like myself who doesn't play a lot of multiplayer games, it can be quite intimidating. one noticeable problem is that you can be rank 3, and you'll be up against players who are rank 10+. my first game was a free for all, i was rank 1 against several other rank 1s, but there was a rank 6, who no doubt had a rather large advantage.
you get goals to complete, called “trials”. chances are you won't notice them until it tells you 'you've completed xxx'. You're then left thinking “I did what now?”. then you'll look up the rest of them and understand the idea of multiplayer is to complete these trials and gain more adam, and ultimately, rank up faster.
As soon as you rank up, you get access to additional stuff. At that point you are already queued for the next match, where you have only 60 seconds to re-configure your 'loadouts' (a selection of gear you can use in a single match). Since you have 3 different loadouts, it can be quite difficult to re-configure them all in just 60 seconds. I found myself exiting the game a couple times in order to change my gear for different games, and to reach different trial goals.
all in all a pretty decent multiplayer experience. if in doubt, just join a free for all, you'll get the idea by the end of the match. you might not win, but you'll get to rank 2 even if you only kill one person i think.
///sorry for the long post haha.
