Well, since I have started two threads that have been deleted and/or locked, I figured I'd get in on this.
First off, this is a great site. It has helped me immensely in completing games and figuring out trophies. The help that this site gives PS3 owners was my original reason for coming here. For that, I would like to give a huge thanks to the Admin. I can't imagine how much work goes into this site and for the fact that he does this is on his own time with his own money is highly generous. So Mr. Admin, thank-you.
Now, as for the discussion at hand, I can understand that you don't want this to be a chat room. That is fine. However, when you have a section titled “Off Topic” and someone makes a thread in that section that is off topic where nothing wrong is happening and everyone is having fun, why close it? Is that not what “Off Topic” is for? My reason to be on here everyday is to interact with the wonderful community of people that have gathered under you on your site and forum. I've seen arguments, insults and racial slurs on here in threads that have lasted longer than one that is full of friendly banter and jokes. That to me doesn't make much sense. Is it because of your “Bronze/Silver/Gold” system on here that you don't want continuous posts from members? If that's the case, why not just let that system go? I honestly have never paid any attention to it. I just find fun to joke around with everyone.
If chatting through threads is really such a big problem, is there anyway a chat room could be added to the site? This would keep the community around and happy at the same time. I for one don't want to go to any other sites because, like I've stated in an earlier thread I created, this site really does have the best bunch of people I have ever seen.
I'm not trying to attack you here or anything because I REALLY do respect the work you do around here. However, a breakdown of what each section contained within your forum is for would be appreciated. I mean, when you look at all the sections, half of them almost seem like they're for the same topics. I can see why new people on here (which I relatively still am) would get confused of where and what to post. I don't want to go anywhere else but if this forum is going to be so tight-knit and 'hush-hush', I may have to. Thanks, Admin!
