 Why do you have to be stereotypical ? Dont know many people who eat crumpets any more anyway & im from wiltshire !

  17. Thickbrow
    August 6th, 2009 at 16:58 | #17

Well i’m from North America where Cricket doesn’t even register as a sport. It isn’t even in the Olympics. I’ve never seen a game of cricket being played. I looked it up on Wiki and the bats look like the size of my Kayak Paddles! Baseball is by far more fun and requires more skill. This may be an older sport but Baseball appears to be an evolution of this ancient sport. Similar to how ‘kick the can’ evolved into soccer.

Actually Thicbrow I Like Baseball More Than Cricket, But Cricket Is Still One Of My Favourite Sports.

@Thickbrow.. Im from North America, and i know exactly what Cricket is.. I tried Cricket, and it is a lot harder and more complex than Baseball.

  21. Sly-Creed
    August 6th, 2009 at 23:48 | #21

@Thickbrow….dont be so stereotypical. Many people find Cricket more complicated then Baseball. I also live in North America, in Canada but I know what it is. And how can you say Baseball is more fun when you just said you’ve never even played or heard of it before? damn jut found out it wont be coming to north america. that sucks.

  22. Sly-Creed
    August 6th, 2009 at 23:49 | #22

Cricket’s a really hard sport, especially if your batting against a spin bowler, like me ;-)

lol i dont think cans were invented in medieval times…

At iidinkster: Well maybe cricket evolved from ‘kick the peasant’ :)

As for baseball, many experts, including Yale Physics professor Robert Adair, say that hitting a major league baseball is technically the hardest thing to do. Look it up. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2003-03-02-ten-hardest-hitting-baseball_x.htm
For those who can’t be bothered, a 95-100mph fastball reaches home plate in 0.4 seconds. It takes 0.15 seconds for humans to voluntarily blink their eyes in response to visual signals. Not only to batters have to blink, they must swing the bat at precisely the right spot at the right time. Add to that variations in pitches (curve,slider,split-finger, breaking, change-ups), and you got the hardest thing to do in sport. Baseball athletes are payed millions of dollars to hit the ball an average of 3/10 times!

I’m from Vancouver and I have never seen a game of cricket being played. I am not exaggerating. I never see ‘cricket’ highlight video’s on sportsnet, TSN or the Score. Kinda like when I was in Mexico and I didn’t see any NHL (hockey) highlights.

  26. Thickbrow
    August 7th, 2009 at 04:05 | #26

Oh ya, and I’ve played baseball for 12 years of my life. So i know a little something about it. Think about it.

On the subject, I was reading more of Robert Adair’s info and he talks about the gyroball.

It’s quite an important pitch in cricket. But it’s of no use in baseball. The gyroball, as advertised, is spinning like a football along the axis where the ball is moving. This does almost nothing to baseball. It’s a nothing pitch. But in cricket you’re bouncing the ball, and a spin like that can give it a kick—you have in breaks and out breaks. And it’s a fairly important part of cricket, often called the “Googely.”

Still the batt of a cricket player is HUGE. If you gave batts like that to Sammy Sosa or Albert Pooholes they would have over 100 HR every season.

  27. Starscreen666
    August 7th, 2009 at 07:56 | #27

I like baseball but I would have to agree I think cricket is harder plus sammy Sosa took drugs to hit home runs an so did alot of the best baseball players. Thats why thay hit all them home runs :)

@Thickbrow If Baseball is so difficult, why is it that all the jocks are good at it :P

Played It For A Few Hours Last Night, Its A Pretty Good Game, Lost A Test Match To The Aussies Lol By 39Runs – Completed It In The First Day Before Tea Lmao ^^ Achieved 3 Trophies Whilst Playing :d – 5-For, Bowl out opponents in less than 10 overs, Mitchell Johnson On A Pair – Noguht Nought

Most Of The England Players Actually Look Like Themselves In Real- Life, APART FROM ANDREW FLINTOFF which i find really strange its pretty shocking. Other then thats Graphics Prett good, Good Game – You Need To Play It A Lot To Get Used To It

Do some people play cricket for a living? or is it like ‘beer league’baseball?

What does the best cricket player make and what does the average player make?

  37. T__E__Z__A
    August 8th, 2009 at 10:05 | #37

    @Thickbrow
Yes, just in the same way as Football (you probably call it soccer), Rugby, Baseball, Basketball, American Football etc.

Pay can depend on where you are from or playing, as well as class, but a good player can earn anything from $200,000 (USD) going into millions and then more depending on sponsorship. An average to good player probably gets half that.

Cricket in Australia seems to be the highest average, whereas places like South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka get paid not half as much.

Hope that helps a bit Thickbrow.
